Chelsea Spinos is a health coach who focuses on integrating spiritual practices like Ayurveda with modern nutrition and exercise science to help her clients develop their mind-body connection more deeply. We’re talking about Chelsea’s experience with eating disorders, body dysmorphia and exercise addiction, and how she was able to start changing her relationship with food and her body.
We’ve been talking a lot about different peoples’ personal stories with recovery and the different tools they used to overcome their disordered eating and improve their body image – I like to provide as many different modalities and tools that people have been successful with as possible. You might connect with some, you might not connect with others, you may think some are super woo-woo, some are too religious or spiritual for you – but they have all worked for someone, somewhere, and I’d like you guys to keep an open mind. I’m in no way saying that Chelsea’s story or way of recovery is way out there or anything, I’ve actually been meaning to say this for a while, but just wanted to put it out there.
In the same light, whether we’re talking about body image and relationship with food or we’re talking about interpretations of nutrition science and healing modalities – you might not agree with every opinion expressed on this show, I might not 100% agree with the perspectives that are shared on this podcast as a whole. But I try to provide an unfiltered, vast range of opinions and perspectives on health and healing for you guys in the hopes that they will resonate with someone, somewhere, even though it might not resonate with everyone, everywhere. It’s really important to expose yourself to a range of opinions and information on many sides of the spectrum so you don’t get so pigeon-holed into one modality of healing, or eating, or exercising (let’s be honest, this is why people get so religious and cultish about food and exercise, etc.) – even just being exposed and OPEN to hearing other perspectives, and trying to see things from another perspective, even if you don’t completely agree with it, can really help you get over perfectionistic tendencies that can actually fuel disordered eating and exercise patterns too.
