Dr. Alise Parrish, a Doctor of physical therapy and founder of Ally Wellness, joins Dana for today’s episode. Alise’s mission is to help folks feel good in their bodies. They provide sliding-scale Physical Therapy, Personal Training, and Wellness services in a safe and affirming environment. On today’s episode Alise and Dana (me) are discussing the problems of the ‘traditional’ PT environment, and how it alienates and disproportionately affects people in marginalized bodies. We’re also addressing the #1 thing most people have heard when they go to PT – “you need to lose weight to fix the pain” – how this is inaccurate in evidence-based practice, how this doesn’t actually help clients manage their pain (even if they do lose weight), and what we can do instead by treating the body you’re currently in.
