May has been a freaking CRAZY month, you guys. I took over the Whole30Recipes Instagram again, I started my LAST TRIMESTER of grad school (f*ck YES), and have been working on a tooon of new delicious content for you guys!! Just a few of my May favorites from this month…
FOOOOOD & STUFFS.
Territory Foods. Holy crapola you guys Territory (formerly Power Supply) has been saving my BUTT this month. Getting super busy is NOT an excuse to eat sh*tty food in my book, especially if you’re trying to eat to feel your best, to get healthier, doing a Whole30, or are an athlete, etc. But if I don’t have time to meal prep, I’ll just order some Territory foods and pick them up at my crossfit gym. Total. LIFESAVER. (p.s., this post is not sponsored. They’re just freaking AWESOME). All delicious, real food, with great ingredients, and all you have to do is warm it up (or heck, eat it cold!) Use the code “REALFOODWITHDANA” at checkout to get a free meal on me!
Siete Foods Tortilla Chips. If you haven’t tried these yet, you’re seriously missing out. I know Cinco de Mayo was earlier this month but my GOD these things are seriously GOLD in chip form. Grain-free too! Grab them at Whole Foods or online!
Kite Hill Chive Cream Cheese. I’ve definitely been on more of a savory than sweet kick this month. Holy moly this cream cheese. Nothing comes closer to the real thing, and the chives/spices in here? Dying of happiness. Try it in some scrambled eggs with smoked salmon + greens OR on your favorite gluten-free bagel. Tastebuds just went to heaven it’s fiiine. Grab it at Whole Foods or Mom’s Organic Market!
Chung Jung One Gochujang Korean Chili Sauce. You knooow I love sauces. Pesto, Ranch, Chimichurri, Hot sauce, I love them all. This is my newest favorite – not too hot to blow your tastebuds out (because no one wants to do that, rude), but just spicy enough, and packed with flavor. AND gluten/dairy-free, unlike every single other Gochujang I’ve ever seen out there (and believe me, I’ve looked!!)
Mindo Chocolate. This is the one exception to my savory tooth this month. But isn’t chocolate always the exception? Mindo is small chocolate company out of Dexter, Michigan that only gets their chocolate in direct trade agreements from farmers in Ecuador. Ingredients? On point. Nothing added except high-quality cocoa and cane sugar. Taste? ON. FREAKING. POINT. Look for a recipe coming soon!
Whole30 Recipes Instagram Takeover. In case you missed it, I took over the Whole30Recipes instagram for a week – posting alll my own recipes for about 800k+ followers to see. YIKES, right? Here’s the link for all the epic recipes I posted over there!!
(BOOKS) I’m Devouring
the Graceling Series. Oh hey. Don’t judge. We all need a little fantasy fiction in our lives to get lost in, DUH. I mean hello, have you met me…Harry Potter. That is all. But seriously I’ve been loving this series!
Wired to Eat by Robb Wolf. New favorite health and nutrition book, hands down. Robb’s was the first paleo book I ever read (the Paleo Solution) that got me started in all this madness on my journey to health. I can’t recommend this one enough – teaching you all about how the foods you eat every day impact your health and happiness, but it goes SO much deeper than that – not only what he calls “Personalized Nutrition”, but lifestyle changes you need to make to feel your best. Robb also goes into a 30-day reset PLUS a 7-Day Carb Tolerance Test to determine the level of carbohydrates you need to eat (and even the type YOU specifically should be eating/avoiding to feel your best)!
LIFE, FITNESS & HEALTH
Article: Is Your Sunscreen Toxic? Plus a guide to safe sunscreen. Learn about the different ingredients you should be avoiding at ALL COSTS in your sunscreen, because they can be causing more harm than good. Plus some other knowledge bombs like knowing that SPF 50+ means literally nothing, and what brands you should try instead.
Tarte All-Natural Mascara: Lights, Camera, Splashes. FINALLY. A natural, crap-free mascara that is freaking awesome AND waterproof. Just what I need, as someone who is sweating up a storm in the gym and swim coaching all the time. I got mine at Sephora, but it’s at Ulta too.
SimplyScrubs. Treat yo self. I’ve been loving these SimplyScrubs, which are 100% organic, all-natural, handmade body scrubs. Loving the coffee scrub and green tea one as my two favorites so far! I’ve definitely noticed less breakouts and my skin is smooth AF. #winning.
Real Plans. I don’t know about you, but I get busy AF in the summer. Meal planning and prepping definitely falls by the wayside. So I’ll either order some Territory stuff, or use Real Plans to take all the thought out of meal prepping. Because eating real food should be easy and delicious, but it doesn’t always seem that easy, does it? Real Plans is a service that lets you pick your dietary preferences (paleo, Whole30, gluten-free, vegetarian, etc.), that spits out a meal plan for however many breakfasts/lunches/ dinners/snacks you need that week, that automatically makes a grocery list for you (divided by section at the store!) AND tells you which times during the week you should prep things to get meals on the table AFAP (as fast as possible). Umm hellooo total lifesaver. Check out more deets here!
